Before any treatment you will be asked detailed questions about your condition, past medical history including any operations, illnesses, accidents, and any medication you are currently prescribed and any changes in your general health. We always carry out some osteopathic treatment on your first visit, but please understand that taking a detailed case history and carrying out the examination can take up a large part of your first consultation. Your health and suitability for Osteopathic treatment and are of utmost concern
Usually you will be asked to undress to your underwear. Osteopathy is a holistic treatment therefore it is important that your Osteopath sees not only the area that is causing problems but also other areas that can relate to your condition.
During the examination your Osteopath will carry out diagnostic tests such as blood pressure, reflexes, joint mobility and muscle strength. You may be asked to perform simple movements to aid in the understanding and assessment of your situation.
Your Osteopath will form a diagnosis which will be discussed with you in detail and where appropriate, and with your consent, treatment will commence. Your condition may require several treatments before resolving. If your Osteopath does not think you would benefit from osteopathic treatment this will be explained to you.
After treatment advice will be given to aid your recovery and comfort, it is important that this advice is followed as this also forms part of your rehabilitation.
At any time during your appointment you can ask your Osteopath to stop treatment and explain anything they have said or any techniques performed.
